Smart Scanner App Reviews

Doesnt work for German

as nice and useful your business card reader works, I thought this app could be so powerful too. Unfortunately it doesnt. The recognition is very bad. Not even found one correct word in the txt i tried. Probably works fine in US? Tried with iP 4 iOS 4.0

Works pretty good

OCRd pages of legal text well, about 95+ % accurate. Landscape and portrait orientation worked. Manual selection of single sentences is good. Worked best with well lit paper (no strong shadows). Scanned business cards with 100% accurate, and tap-to-call and email also good. Very good value for low price.

Extremely Disapponting

Exactly what I was looking for - except for the fact that it works only 1 time out of 10 maybe. I would demand a refund if i didnt believe it was imposible. Apple, please add a "i want a refund button" for apps. When more than 50% click it - do something! Ive been disappointed so many times.

Amazing

This app is so great I use it to capture notes from class and turn them into a document. It works perfect every time I capture text on paper.

Disappointed for now

Not even an inch close behind Docscanner. It was a misguided decision to purchase this app. I dont understand why all others iPhone scanning apps got the balls to giveaway a free lite version or demo for evaluation .But this one only give you the option to buy it.Where Is the confidence of the developers.

Garbage.

Im sick with myself for throwing away $2 on this app. The OCR is absolutely garbage. Just crap. Ive tried it on a variety of fonts, papers, surfaces; with different types and amounts of lighting. It hasnt gotten two words in a row yet. It all just comes out as illegible sequences of obscure punctuation marks and random letters. Skip the app and save your twoonie for a coffee.

Prepare to be disappointed

It regularly miss the fist few lines in the scan. It only works partially with printed text.

The OCR is good but scanning is awful

Awful scanner. Taking pic and do OCR results in garbage. Worst app around. However its not the OCR engine because when I use pics taken from other app the OCR is fine. Dont buy this. Hey Shapeservices get back into shape.

Not so good

Poor camera definition, no flash light on iPhone 3gs. Final Ocr quality not good. Dont buy!

Ocr ancora acerbo

Non riesce a riconoscere ancora bene

Terrible OCR

Really not useful. Cant scan a paragraph from book or paper. Cant focus the OCR.

It simply...works! :-)

It does the job and it does it well. Granted it could use some interface and UI improvements but thats not why I bought this app! I bought it for what it can do, and boy does it get it right! Needs: Portrait Scanning (No doubt) & Recognition of text format as it appears on the page. (Line Breaks for example)

Terrible OCR!!!, terrible scaning, hate it

Useless app!! Waste of money!!

What a nice tool

Its an best intelligent software, which can provide great convenience for our work. I really like to use it when I extract information in the library!

#8

This is the 8th one I have tried and, frankly, the other scan apps should be embarassed. Works PERFECTLY on my 3GS. Apple should do itself a favor and just offer this app as they all dont deserve to be in the same room with this one. Buy it! Its a winner!

Disappointed

How could most of the reviews, out of the 12, lead me wrong! 95% of the time its scan results are a jumbled mess! And, I am talking about even with good light, good type, etc. The only satisfaction I have is paying $2+ for the oppurtunity to warn you!!! I am very, very disappointed with this app and all the companies associated with it.

Dont Do It!

Terrible app, wasted $2. Most everything I scan comes out as gibberish. I guess this is karma for all the mp3s that Ive downloaded illegally over the years. *sigh*

This software is a criminally bad

Dont be fooled by the 1 start rating (theres no provision for 0), and dont be fooled for a second by the 4 and 5 star reviews that have been written - they HAVE to be plants. I have made over 100 attempts at getting the software to work, and have had exactly a 0 success rate. The feature for parsing out phone numbers sometimes actually recognized that something a phone number, but would leave out some of the numbers - making it un-dialable. This was baffling - software smart enough to recognize a phone number, but not smart enough to know phone numbers dont have 8 digits? The tap and drag feature for scanning large portions of text yielded the selection box for me only once (and even then proceeded to give a bunch of non-sense characters for the scan itself), and the tiny bits of text I tried to scan with the auto detect feature came out garbled, as well. Seriously, dont buy this product - there are plenty of free OCR solutions out there that dont work just as well.

Not So SmartScan...

I have to agree with the reviewer below me - this app is not ready for prime time... I researched similar OCR apps, & I want to like/use SmartScan; but after months of attempted use, I can say its rather flawed. Here are the bads n goods... ::Bad App!:: - crashes 90% time, no joke - slow to open/load (is this due to accessing the camera by default? why not give users the option to choose camera or photo album when 1st opening?) - successful scan = lower 50% of text is somewhat accurate (it seems the "scan bar" falls too fast, literally missing to top half of a document) - images to be scanned cannot be landscape (why not warn users of this?) ::Good App:: - nice icon - scans are stored for kinda easy editing - ability to append/add to existing scans - ability to edit "mis-scanned" text w/ helpful image window (altho, editing text at top of screen is perilously too close to the Cancel button. Pls add a small buffer below Cancel & Done) I believe the devs have the chops to make SmartScan the best of its kind in the app store. They just need to dig deeper, work out the bugs, & provide us with much-needed updates. [iPhone 3GS - os4.+] ps~ I suspect English is not the devs native language... Thats fine; but I worry how that hampers coding an app trying to recognize the messy subtleties of a language not your own..?

Best OCR yet

No OCR is perfect. I dont understand the negative reviews. Worked fine 1st time & everytime since. Best ocr app I have found so far!!!
